Thomas Smith’s shipping and logistics division is presently assisting Rowan Drilling with one of its high quality jack-up rigs, the ‘Ralph Coffman’. Ralph Coffman completed drilling the well in Tunis, and moved to the Port of Valletta, Malta for maintenance works.
Rowan, a global provider of offshore contract drilling, is being supported by General Services Shipping Offshore (GSS) in partnership with Thomas Smith, who presented Malta as the ideal location for the high-end premium jack-up’s maintenance, given market conditions.
Thomas Smith, as GSS’s local partner, assisted and continues to assist the Ralph Coffman jack-up, by coordinating quay / workshop facilities, anchorage arrangements, blasting and painting, testing of equipment, fuel supplies, catering supplies and general procurement; providing tugs, pilots and mooring men; assisting in customs clearance and administrative procedures; personnel handling – including visas, accommodation and transfers; coordinating cargo movements, including the transportation of drill pipes; and daily coordinating with the Port of Valletta authorities and Rig Managers to ensure a smooth maintenance operation.
GSS specialises in services inherent in oil and gas logistics activities, rendering valuable technical services to its customers – mainly petrochemical related companies working in Tunisia, where Thomas Smith has previously offered logistical solutions.
Other oil and gas companies assisted by Thomas Smith include Transocean Offshore, Songa Offshore, EMAS/AMC, Lundin, Schlumberger, BG Tunisia, Stena Offshore , Mabrouk Oil Services (Total Libya), and Seawolf Oilfield Services.
