The end of every year marks a special occasion for Thomas Smith Group and all its employees, through its renowned Solidarity Fund. As we celebrate the 18th year since this idea’s inception, we continue to uphold our dedication to helping out local communities and individuals through our commitment of support.

Every year, Thomas Smith employees play an integral role in donating and selecting the charities that receive monetary support through the Solidarity Fund. Twelve different charities were nominated through the official voting poll; with this year’s top three beneficiaries coincidentally consisting of organisations supporting children. A total of €3,000 were donated to the top three beneficiaries selected for this year – Puttinu Cares, St. Joseph Orphanage Home, and Children’s Dreams.

€1,500 TO PUTTINU CARES

Puttinu Cares has showcased longstanding commitment to providing crucial support to individuals and their families within the Maltese community during challenging times, particularly when faced with the battle against cancer.

Their distinguished reputation has been unwavering through its services extending beyond Maltese borders, with their continuous expansion of accommodation services in the UK. These services are extended to patients undergoing cancer treatment and their accompanying families.

A heartfelt contribution of €1,500 from this year’s Solidarity Fund was formally presented to Puttinu Cares representative, Andrew Decelis, by our team members Josepha Pickard and Omar Nasr.

€1,000 TO ST. JOSEPH ORPHANAGE HOME

Our second contribution went to St. Joseph Orphanage Home – a remarkable institution dedicated to providing a haven for children in out-of-home care.

The mission of this orphanage is to transform institutional spaces into warm and safe environments where children can experience the comfort and possibility of growth that every child deserves.

Over the years, St. Joseph has provided care to over 2,300 children. We believe that Thomas Smith’s contribution of €1,000 consisting of a laptop and supermarket vouchers, will contribute to the organisation’s heartfelt cause, provide additional resources for the children in their care and supporting their education. The donations were presented to Sr. Firdaus on behalf of St. Joseph Orphanage Home by our employees Chayanne Zammit (left) and Marica Bugeja (right).

€500 TO CHILDREN’S DREAMS

In the spirit of spreading joy, our third donation through the Solidarity Fund went to Children’s Dreams, a noble initiative launched in Malta in 2013 in collaboration with the Foundation for Social Welfare Services. The contribution consisted of €500 was presented to Marcon Benatiya on behalf of the organisation, in the form of customisable vouchers to fulfil the unique wishes of various children, by our team members Bernice Gaffiero, who was one of the employees who voted for this cause.

Children’s Dreams has embarked on a remarkable journey to bring to life the Christmas dreams of many little ones facing social needs or residing in children’s homes. Thomas Smith’s donation will be added to their fund to be used for the purchase of personalised gifts in time for Christmas, as well as to support needs relating to stationery, books, educational resources and many more items that may be required throughout 2024.

This project operates with the assistance of many volunteers by compiling an extensive list of wishes from these children, creating an opportunity for individuals and businesses to contribute and make the festive season brighter for these little ones.

Over the course of December, we had the privilege of presenting this monetary assistance and vouchers to these three deserving beneficiaries; witnessing first-hand the positive impact our Group’s contributions have on their respective missions.

In view of our mission of charity begins at home, we are extending our commitment to one of our team members who has faced unforeseen challenges following a motorbike accident in 2023. As he embarks on what could possibly be a long road to recovery, we will be standing by our beloved colleague during this challenging time.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to all employees who, year after year, rally together to give back to those in need; showcasing the true meaning of teamwork and support. These collective efforts will make significant difference in the life of every deserving individual and we couldn’t be more thankful for this.
