Grand Prix Paddock, Malta Classic, Joe Gerada Thomas Smith

Thomas Smith Group will once again be one of the main sponsors for this year’s Malta Classic Grand Prix edition, which shall kick-off with the Thomas Smith Hill Climb on the 5th of October, at Ta’ Pennellu Hill, Mellieha.

The Thomas Smith Hill Climb is a stand-alone event set outside the picturesque village of Mellieha, whereby several classic cars must tackle a fast 2.5 km stretch with thrilling bends and corners – an adrenaline rush for all drivers and spectators.

This year’s event will be held at 15:00 through to 19:00. Races will kick-off at 16:00.

A reception will follow, at 19:30, at the Mellieha Square, in George Borg Olivier Street, where the winners will be presented with their prizes.

One of the many participants of the Hill Climb will be a Formula 1 car. This marks the first time a F1 vehicle will be hitting the streets during a local racing event. The vehicle will be driven by Lord Greg Thornton exclusively during the Thomas Smith Hill Climb.

Mr. Joe Gerada, Thomas Smith Group Managing Director, and a participant himself, said “This is the 6th consecutive year Thomas Smith is supporting Malta’s highly anticipated classic car tournaments, which attracts numerous local and international race drivers. The event is an incredible opportunity for the Island to showcase some of its most breathtaking sites of Mellieha and Mdina, while bringing classic car enthusiasts and spectators together. We are thrilled with the evolution of the event, and hope it can continue to attract many more international classic car enthusiasts.”

The annual Malta Classic Grand Prix events have enticed many local and international race drivers, and this year will involve over 57 participating cars, including 12 foreign participants from the United Kingdom, Italy, France, as well as Austria.
