History The Thomas Smith business concern was established in 1848 by an Englishman named William Jennison Smith. He called the company Thomas Smith for his son who actually followed in his father's footsteps and carried on with the same services his father established. Thomas Smith had three sons , Gerard , Reginald and Ronald and as the first two died during the Second World War it was left to Ronald Smith to carry on with the company activity. Ronald had another son who he called Thomas but the second Thomas Smith who was the sole owner of the company , after his father Ronald died , also died very young leaving his widow , Corinne and baby daughter Hannah as sole owners of the company. Today the company is led by Joe Gerada an economics graduate , second husband of Corinne who joined the group in 1985 having been previously employed within the manufacturing and tourism industries .He has seen the company develop into the wide ranging group it is today with professional managers and staff in each division of activity. Over the years the Thomas Smith organisation has provided ship agency services, coal supplies, freight forwarding, insurance and was representative of a number of foreign banks and many other reputable companies. Its flagship of representation has always been P&O and all the companies within the group. To date it still represents P&O cruises, Princess Cruises and all the companies formerly related to P&O in the cruise scene. It also is Malta and Libya agent for the main container line P&ONEDLLOYD.
